Two awards for Dalkia
The “Energy Use of Coke Gas in Ostrava” project received the “Project of the Year” award during the District Heating Days event in recognition of a major reduction in pollutant emissions that it brought about. In addition, Dalkia came third in the “Project of the Decade” category, via the general public vote, with the project known as the “Use of Biomass for Heat and Electricity Generation in Krnov, Nový Jičín and Olomouc”. This poll was held in three categories – the journalists’ vote, the general public’s vote, and the energy professionals’ vote – and it included the 10 selected projects that made the greatest contribution to improving the quality of air in our country’s towns and cities, the utilisation of renewable energy resources, and/or fuel savings over the last ten years.
Teplárna Olomouc celebrates 60 years
Teplárna Olomouc is currently celebrating 60 years since the start of its operation in 1952 when the first boiler was commissioned. The heat and power plant has been operating under the Dalkia Group brand since 1998 and it now supplies heat to 25,000 homes and the largest industrial companies in the city of Olomouc together with Olterm & TD Olomouc. The plant also provides ancillary services to ČEPS. Teplárna Olomouc constantly upgrades its facilities. Since Dalkia’s arrival in the city, more than CZK 3 billion has been spent on upgrades and environmental investments at Teplárna and the environmentally sound district heating system in Olomouc has grown by 54 km to the current 118 km.
Dalkia launches the first district cooling network in the Czech Republic
Dalkia is launching the first district cooling network in the Czech Republic on 22 March, on the occasion of the opening of the Nová Karolina shopping and leisure centre in Ostrava. Dalkia was chosen as the provider of heating and cooling for the major retail, cultural and entertainment complex (with an area of 32 hectares) in the Czech Republic, as early as 2008. Dalkia decided to implement an innovative and highly-efficient solution to provide the air-conditioning on the premises of the Nová Karolina centre, via a district cooling network. The system is unique within the Czech Republic with the expected annual amount of cooling supply is 14,000 MWh.

Good news for the citizens of Frýdek-Místek
The construction of a new bio power plant was begun on the premises of Dalkia Česká republika’s Teplárna Frýdek-Místek today. The new, environmentally sound energy source will fire wood chips and the annual amount of electricity generated will be approximately 36 GWh, which represents more than half a year’s supply of electricity for all homes in Frýdek-Místek. The annual heat generation capacity will enable the replacement of 30% of the total heat supplied by the existing heat and power plant, thus providing a more environmentally-friendly thermal comfort for 8,000 homes in the town. The project is being implemented by EnergoFuture, and the completion and commissioning of the bio-boiler is planned for December 2012.
Dalkia Česká republika completed capital projects worth almost one billion crowns in 2011
As part of its commitment to modernisation, Dalkia Česká republika continuously innovates and upgrades its energy installations with a view to being as reliable and environmentally friendly as possible. Last year, its capital expenditure amounted to almost one billion crowns. For example, the boiler at Teplárna Přívoz was retrofitted to fire larger quantities of coke gas from OKK and investments were also channelled into district heat and cold distribution systems in Olomouc, Frýdek-Místek and Karviná, and a major portion of the funds was expended on the replacement of compressors at the new subsidiary Dalkia Industry CZ.
